Learning Commons

The MCC Learning Commons is a collaboration among the following:

Together, the departments support students' learning by providing access to various learning technologies, expert research assistance, print and online research resources, IT help, writing and tutoring help, and multiple study spaces for individual and group learners.

The space, resources, and services in a common area promote an active and collaborative learning environment.

We are dedicated to fostering intellectual curiosity and lifelong learning.

Guiding Principles

  1. To recognize that customer service is the ultimate goal of all Library activities while respecting individual users and guarding their rights to privacy.
  2. To build, organize, and provide access to a print and electronic collection supporting the present and future needs of the College’s academic programs and, as necessary, the social needs of its students.
  3. To recognize that the library is not an autonomous body but operates within a larger organizational framework, and to actively promote on-campus awareness of its resources and services to encourage full use by students, faculty and staff. To support and promote events and activities on campus.
  4. To participate in interlibrary cooperation in both the spirit of sharing and in making the most efficient use of finances and other resources for cooperative collection development.
  5. To view the Library as a dynamic system, in need of constant evaluation and adjustment, in order to maintain the necessary flexibility to accommodate changing curricular and library user needs.
  6. To provide active training and instructional support to students, faculty and staff in accordance with ACRL's Informaton Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education.
  7. To strive toward maximal organizational efficiency and effectiveness, in order to best utilize material and human resources.
  8. To seek funding to support the mission and objectives, and when necessary, seek outside sources of funding to improve the holdings and services.
  9. To create an organizational culture focused on student success and customer service.
  10. To resist attempts to censor information.
  11. To collaborate with faculty, students and staff in strategic planning efforts to determine the nature of existing and future information resources and services.

Accessing the Library from Off-Campus

Access most MCC Library articles, eJournals, databases and eBooks from off-campus. Just enter your EasyLogin when you see the MCC Library login page. (Your EasyLogin is your username (first initial+last name+3 numbers) and then a password. It's what you use for Blackboard and your college email.) Contact us if you have any problems logging in.
